Jewel A. Vigunas, 81, of Lititz, entered God's kingdom on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 from St. Anne's Retirement Community, Columbia, PA after a long illness. Born in Jersey City, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Harold J. and Julia Hille Boiles, and the wife of Albert A. Vigunas who passed in May 2003.
Having moved with her husband, Al, on his transfer with Warner-Lambert to the Lititz area in 1956, Jewel led an active life in her church and community. As a member of St. James Catholic Church in Lititz, she was active in the Altar Society and a past President of the Silver Liners at the church. She was also one of the members involved with the development and fundraising for the church when it was built on the current site on Woodcrest Avenue in Lititz.
Jewel quickly embraced the Lititz community and was involved with the Lititz Area Jayncees and then the Lititz Woman's Club. Her involvement in the Lititz Woman's Club and the various activities to support the Lititz/Warwick region became a passion that continued until she could no longer contribute. She served as President of the Lititz Woman's Club, and the Lancaster County Federation of Women's Clubs, serving as the representative to the General Federation of Women's Clubs of Pennsylvania. In addition, Jewel was a former President of the Warner- Lambert Retirees, and assisted with the Lititz Meals on Wheels for many years.
She loved to travel, be on any warm beach, and cooking. The meals she put together for family and friends at a moment's notice were extraordinary. In addition to her strong faith, Jewel's family was the most important to her. While challenging at times, she and Al raised two sons, Michael A., husband of Pamela Bashore Vigunas, Lititz; and Steven A., husband of Charla Deni Byrd Vigunas, Mountville. She treasured her five grandchildren: Tanya Freiberg, wife of Ron, Matthew Vigunas, husband of Katie, Jason Vigunas, Adrienne Pacelli, wife of Jim, and Katherine Vigunas. Jewel was also blessed with four great granddaughters whom she cherished: Julianna Pacelli, Emma, Ada and Teresa Freiberg.
